I have experience of transforming WinWord format into PDF files. You
can download from ADBODE ftpsite
(ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/3,x/pdfmaker.zip) a tool
called PDFMAKER V1.0 for MS WORD97. But it has a prerequisite that you
have installed either PDFWRITER 3.0(or later) or Acrobat Distiller
3.0, which is required by any other software for the same purpose.
For transformation from PDF file to WORD rtf format, there is a product
from another company AMBIA, AERIAL V2.0 demo version from
http://www.ambia.com for use with a limited period of time. You can
visit this company's website and search for it. It really works.
