Registration form is available on: <http://www.corpus.bham.ac.uk/courses/corptransreg.htm> Short course: Corpora and Translation December 13-15, 2004 More information on www.corpus.bham.ac.uk/courses Corpora and Translation This 3-day workshop provides an intensive introduction to the use of corpora in the field of translation studies, focussing on the exploitation of monolingual and parallel (translation) corpora. In addition to learning about the application of corpus linguistics techniques to translation studies, participants will learn about the compilation, alignment, and investigation of parallel corpora in translation studies and will have the opportunity for hands-on practice using MonoConc, ParaConc, Multiconcord, Lookup and Vanilla Aligner. The format of the workshop will be a mix of lectures and practice sessions. Presenters: Michael Barlow, Dorothy Kenny and Pernilla Danielsson. Michael Barlow is Associate Professor of Applied Language Studies at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. He is the creator of the software programs MonoConc and ParaConc and has given presentations and workshops on corpus linguistics in a variety of different countries around the world. Dorothy Kenny is Senior Lecturer in the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies at Dublin City University and a founder member of the Centre for Translation and Textual Studies. She is author of Lexis and Creativity: A Corpus-based Study (St. Jerome, 2001) and co-editor of Unity in Diversity: Current Trends in Translation Studies. Pernilla Danielsson teaches postgraduate modules on Research methods in Corpus Linguistics at the University of Birmingham and is Academic Director of the Centre for Corpus Research.
