    The Interactive Information Discovery and Delivery Project, lead by
    Steven Bird, has funding for PhD scholarships in language technology,
    with a closing date of 31 October 2004.

    Research areas covered by this project include:
    o question answering and summarization
    o automatic content extraction
    o geographical and temporal IR
    o rhetorical structure, document structure and layout
    o multimodal integration
    o high performance computing for NLP
    o semistructured query languages

    Further details about NICTA PhD Scholarships

    National ICT Australia (NICTA) is Australia's Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre of Excellence funded under the Commonwealth Government's Backing Australia's Ability policy.

    NICTA Scholarships, in the areas of information and communications technology, are available for high achieving students commencing a PhD or a Masters leading to PhD within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering or the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

    NICTA Scholarships will provide tax free stipends of up to AUD$24,000 per annum. In some cases a fee remission scholarship may be offered to overseas students. For students who successfully obtain other scholarships, such as the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), NICTA funded top up scholarships may be available.

    Applications for immediate commencement, or commencement up until March 2005, may be made at any time up to the closing date of 31 October 2004.
