Postdoc Position in Information Retrieval in Amsterdam
The Information and Language Processing Systems group of the
Informatics Institute at the University of Amsterdam has an
opening for a postdoctoral research position. This position is
funded by a grant from the Netherlands Organization for
Scientific Research. It is mainly focused on research and
development in the area of pinpointing highly relevant
information, devising, implementing, and evaluating models and
components to support high precision information seeking tasks.
Specifically, the position includes: building next-generation
question answering as well as structured and semi-structured
document retrieval systems; designing and developing evaluation
methods and test collections to help assess the effectiveness of
focused retrieval methods; integrating data-driven and symbolic
approaches into information seeking processes.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent person holding a
PhD degree in computer science. The applicant must have
expertise in evaluation-driven information retrieval, test
collection development, and user studies. Some experience with
applied natural language processing systems is an advantage. The
candidate is expected to have a strong background in data-driven
research and software development for building experimental
infrastructure. Familiarity with statistical retrieval models is
required since these constitute the base for the group's research
activities. Teamwork, leadership, training abilities, a careful
working style, as well as the ability to work effectively with
scientific colleagues and PhD students, are all important
qualifications for this position.
