Linguistics in The Netherlands will be held at the University of
Antwerp (Campus Drie Eiken, Wilrijk). It will be organized by the
Language Technology Group of the Centre for Dutch Language and Speech
    (http://cnts.uia.ac.be/), in co-operation with SIKS
(http://www.siks.nl/). CLIN 2003 is sponsored by CLIF

                            ** KEYNOTE LECTURE **

Natural Language Processing in Information Retrieval

                               Thorsten Brants
                               Google Inc., USA

                                   Abstract

Typical information retrieval (IR) systems are based on the bag-of-
words model and use little to no natural language processing (NLP).
Stemming is regularly used, but applying syntactic and semantic
processing to improve results significantly remains an extremely hard
task. This talk aims at identifying promising ways of using NLP in IR,
and at identifying IR tasks that are likely to benefit from NLP.

                           ** PLENARY PROGRAMME **

The plenary programme consists of several parallel presentation
sessions and one poster session. The main topics of this year's
    meeting are:
            - Parsing
            - Multi-word Recognition
            - Machine Learning
            - Syntax
            - Semantics
            - Morphology
            - Speech Recognition
            - Natural Language Processing Applications
