Hello,

Thanks to all the folks out there who responded to my query about a POS
tagger in Perl.

As with many things in the Perl world, "There's a module for that."

http://www.cpan.org lists a POS tagger at
http://search.cpan.org/~acoburn/Lingua-EN-Tagger-0.03/
which uses a bigram HMM. It's trained in English on the Penn Treebank corpus.

I also ran across a Perl annotator by Kristie Seymore.
It's available at http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~kseymore/
