    A quick google search, "UK census male names", led me (via
    http://www.rowdensurname.org/govrecords.htm) to
    http://www.statistics.gov.uk/CCI/SearchRes.asp?term=names
    which seems a good place to start.

    I failed to google up corresponding stats for Germany and France,
    probably because I used English words like "census" in the search. Try
    using the corresponding German/French word.

    (Who thinks google should be the 2003 Time "Person of The Year". After
    all, it's 20 years since the PC was...)
