There is a danger of re-inventing the wheel here. Other social sciences have established protocols for dealing with sociological data. Anyone directly concerned with this issue might wish to consult colleagues in sociolinguistics or sociology. It might turn out that Corpus Linguistics has special circumstances that need to be taken into account, but it seems sensible to start with existing solutions to the problem.
