                            CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
                                  SEMANET '02
A COLING Workshop on Building and Using Semantic Networks

                           Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan
                               August 31, 2002

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Members of the NLP Community:

The organizers of SemaNet02 -- a COLING workshop on building and using
semantic networks -- are pleased to invite you to participate in our
workshop, to be held after the COLING conference on August 31, 2002 at
    Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan.

The goal of this workshop is to explore issues surrounding the
construction and application of semantic networks and ontologies,
including but not limited to the construction of multilingual
ontologies, the construction of ontologies for specific applications
such as question answering and natural language generation, as well as
the application of semantic networks to problems such as anaphora
resolution, named-entities recognition and word sense disambiguation.

The preliminary schedule for the workshop is attached below. We have
accepted 10 papers for oral presentation and 6 papers for poster
presentation. In addition, we will have two guest speakers; the
opening speech by Pascale Fung, and an invited talk by Eduard Hovy.

Full (and updated) details of the workshop can be found at
http://www.ee.ust.hk/~semanet. Details for online registration can be
found on the COLING web page at
    http://www.coling2002.sinica.edu.tw/r-online.html.

We look forward to seeing you in August!
