Biomimetic Multimodal Learning in a Mirror Neuron-based Robot

    EU Fundamental Emerging Technology project
planned project start 1.6.2002, duration 3 years

The Hybrid Intelligent Systems group ( http://www.his.sunderland.ac.uk )
within the area of Computing of the University of Sunderland is
looking for two researchers in the new area of neuroscience-
inspired computing on cognitive robots. This project will be in collaboration
with research groups in cognitive neuroscience and neuroinformatics
in Sunderland, Cambridge, Parma, Nancy and Ulm. The
computational experiments are planned to be performed on a parallel
neural high performance computer which should act as the
"computational brain" for the robots. The researchers will play a key
role in the design, development, programming and testing of a neural
system on a mirror-neuron-based robot integrating vision and
language for actions based on novel neural networks. It is expected that
both researchers also contribute to the coordination of the project at
    different levels.

The Research Scientist position will be for an experienced
researcher with broad skill and expertise in computing, neural
networks, computational neuroscience, and intelligent systems, a
higher degree in Computing, PhD desirable. Knowledge in areas like
vision, language, robotics, neuroscience and project management are
    an advantage.

The Research Associate position will be for a
researcher with expertise in computing, neural networks, a higher
degree in Computing, at least Masters. Experience in supporting
research projects (website, project reports etc) will be an advantage
    for the research associate.

    Closing date: 30th April 2002
