Corpora: proportion of syntactic relations surviving on the surface level ?

    Dear Corpora list members

    Is anyone aware of any studies about the proportion of syntactic relations between content words which are preserved on the surface level of language?
    In other words, how likely is the constituents of syntactic relations like verb - object, verb - subject, modifier - noun etc. to occur sequentially in text?
    Studies with statistical analysis for several languages would be ideal.
