First in Spanish then in English.

    Queridos colegas:

    Linda Bawcom

    Dear colleagues:

I'm going to be giving a presentation with regard to the importance of using a corpus in language teaching. I'm going to quote Michael Hoey when he said "Word lists homogenize the heterogeneous"-Making similar, things which are, in effect, different (here I might be paraphrasing since these are from my notes).

I believe that some of the people who will be coming, although they speak English, teach Spanish. My problem is that I would like to show one or two examples in Spanish (besides the Engish ones), but I do not have a corpus in Spanish (and I don't have time to put one together). I was thinking about looking at "tal vez" vs. "quizá" or "desde luego" vs. "por supuesto" and 'hay que vs. tenir que'. If someone could send me, from your corpus, examples of these I would be very grateful. Or if you already have one or two other examples done, this would be fine too. (In fact this would be better, because it would save me a lot of time!) Of course, I'll give you credit in my presentation.

    Best wishes,
    Linda Bawcom
