Für das EU-Projekt NITE (Natural Interactivity Tools Engineering,
HLT-Programm, bis 03/2003) sucht das Institut für maschinelle
Sprachverarbeitung (Abt. Computerlinguistik) ab sofort
eine Computerlinguistin oder einen Computerlinguisten
oder eine Informatikerin oder einen Informatiker
als Entwickler von Werkzeugen und Komponenten für die Annotation,
Anzeige und insbesondere Abfrage von multimodalen Corpora (Speech,
Transkription und linguistische Annotationen, Gestik, Facial
Expression). Das Projekt wird auf Implementierungen in Java, Java
Media Framework, ggf. C/C++ und auf XML/XSLT aufsetzen.
Geeignete Interessentinnen oder Interessenten sollten Vorkenntnisse in
den genannten Bereichen Forschungsinteressen im Bereich Natural
Interactivity bzw. (multimodale) Dialogsysteme oder alternativ im
Bereich der Corpusabfrage oder der explorativen Datenanalyse haben.
Die Stelle ist zunächst bis 30.3.2003 befristet; es besteht die
Möglichkeit, Fragestellungen aus der Projektarbeit zu einem
Promotionsvorhaben zu erweitern. Bezahlung nach BAT IIa.
Das IMS hat seit 1994 verschiedene Werkzeuge für Abfrage von Corpora
entwickelt, z.B. die Corpus Workbench CWB und Suchwerkzeuge im Rahmen
der Projekte MATE und TIGER (vgl. http://www.ims.uni-stuttgart.de).
Die Stelle gehört zu der Arbeitsgruppe `Corpora/Lexika'. NITE ist
eine Kooperation mit NISLab, Syddansk Universitet Odense, DFKI, HCRC
Edinburgh, ILC Pisa und Noldus bv.
Die Universität Stuttgart möchte den Anteil der Frauen im

Subject: 2001 Laurence Urdang Award (Formerly: VERBATIM Award)
Announcement: Invitation to submit applications
Applications are invited for the Laurence Urdang Award (formerly
Verbatim-Award), administered by EURALEX, for the purpose of
supporting unpaid lexicographical work of any type, including study.
An individual award may vary in size from 250.- GBP to 1,500.- GBP.
For 2001, a total of 2,500.- GBP is available.
The key dates are:

- - - January 2002 Notification of results
- - - February 2002Presentation of Award(s)
Applications should take the form of:
[1.] A statement specifying the amount applied for;
[2.]A statement giving full details of the purpose to which the
funds would be put, and an indication of expected tangible results (e.g. data,
lexicon entries, publications);
[3.]A curriculum vitae including qualifications, details of previous
lexicographical or related work, and publications;
[4.]One professional or academic reference (letter or details of a
person to contact for receiving a letter);
[5.]Details of funding received or applied for in relation to the
project for which the Laurence Urdang Award is being sought.

EURALEX is an international organization of world-wide affiliation
for promoting scholarly and professional activities related to
Lexicography, i.e. the science and art of dictionary-making. Besides
organizing its own Biennial Congresses and periodic Workshops on
themes and topics central to its Members' interest, EURALEX also acts
as a major clearing house for information on publications and
conferences relevant to lexicography, disseminating this information
through various channels, including the EURALEX Newsletter and
WWW site. In addition, EURALEX acts as an academic sponsor of the quarterly
International Journal of Lexicography (IJL) and several research
