Position: Lexicographer/computational linguist for Japanese
computational lexicography/morphology
Job description:
Microsoft's Natural Language Group is seeking a highly qualified and
energetic linguist for Japanese computational lexicography.
NLG has been developing high level NL-based products such as grammar
checkers, auto-language-detection, etc. Japanese is one of the
challenging languages for which NLG has been providing NL solutions. The
team has been actively challenging various problems of computational
lexicography.
The primary task for this position is to enhance and maintain lexical
information in our lexicon database in accordance with the overall
architecture of the Microsoft Natural Language Understanding system in
cooperation with supervising linguists and developers. Actual
assignment includes (1) word search for pre-defined lexical semantic
features, (2) addition of new lexical information to the lexicon
database, (3) integrity check of new information in the lexicon
database, (4) bug fixes in the database. These assignments require (1)
high level knowledge of Japanese lexical semantics, (2) good programming
skills of J perl and VB, (3) efficient large data management skills.
Other tasks are (1) corpus study for new lexical semantic features, (2)
assistance in lexicon building from lexicon database, (3) bug fixes in
the lexicon. Native proficiency of the Japanese language and a degree in
Linguistics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline are
required. Knowledge of corpus-based lexicography, statistical
approaches to NLP are very helpful. Qualifications for this position
include (1) Knowledge of Computational Linguistics, in particular,
computational lexicography, (2) High level knowledge of Japanese
lexicography and/or morphology, (3) Knowledge of lexical semantics, (4)
High programming skills in J-Perl and Visual Basic. Knowledge of other
programming languages such as SQL, C/C++ is a strong plus. Experience
in relevant research/commercial R&D projects is also a strong plus.
