    Analysis and Prediction of Innovation in the Lexicon (APRIL) Project

    The Research and Development Unit for English Studies would like to announce the
    launch of its APRIL new and rare word classification system, the latest in a
    series of demonstrator systems on the RDUES website.

    The full APRIL database contains new/rare words from the UK newspaper The
    Independent during the period 1989-1999, as identified by our software. A
    web-based user interface allows the user to conduct custom queries of the
    database to extract valuable linguistic information. Queries can be customised
    in terms of word length, part of speech, pattern matching, affixes, word
    compound components, etc.

    A demonstration version of the software, containing a single month of data
    (April 1998) is available for testing at:
