    I think a good start would be Biber et al.'s grammar, published by
    Cambridge (1999). It offers detailed product design based on corpus and
    register subcorpora variations and priorities. Then, for German,
    for example, Randall Jones deals with large quantities of recorded scripts
    by native speakers (400 spontaneous interviews with a wide variety of
    topics).
