One regularity (to me) seems to be that I can never get 'whom' if I
stress it, and 'who' sometimes sounds a little odd if it isn't
stressed. Thus I can get (8) (which seems contradictory) by varying
the appropriate stress. I'm a native Estuary speaker, so (2) requires
(or strongly invites) me to strongly stress the 'few' and the 'who'
(even when not speaking with an Essex accent; I've noticed in general
that stress patterns tend to transcend accent shifts). (2) indeed
sounds odd if I don't stress 'who'.
