Corpora: corpora

I basically agree with Oliver Mason over the fact that corpora are
designed under the important premise of adjusting to solve certain
linguistic-- or extralinguistic-- issues which seem obscure or fuzzy
beforehand. Regarding the use of corpora vs. archives, I wonder, though,
whether for some pedagogical aims, such as teaching lexical items,
tailoring the data is really that important. In my case, for example,
the research I conduct with scientific journals taken from electronic
archives is quite valid as raw data for teaching purposes. On the other
hand, I rely on a carefully designed corpus and its representativeness in
order to design class syllabi.
