I am a professor of literacy education in the United States and am looking
into possible uses of computer corpora for elementary school teachers and
students. For example, one area of possible application is for publishers
to use corpora to identify particular grammatical structures found in
specific genres of literature. Teachers could then select genres that
contain examples of structures they wish to teach their students. I am sure
that other possible applications exist. Questions I have now include the
following:
1. Do corpora of American children's literature exist? If so, how can they
be accessed?
2. What freeware corpra (Macintosh) exist that are readily available to
public school teachers in the United States?
3. What ideas do any of you have about ways corpra can be used in
elementary school classrooms?

Thank you for any information you can provide.
