Vacancies for 2 half-time Teaching Assistants
=============================================

The School of Computer Studies has vacancies for two Teaching Assistants,
involving support of specific academic staff in their delivery of specific
modules. It is anticipated that these posts will be half-time (or thereabout)
appointments, conducted throughout the teaching semesters; they will
commence with the next academic session (September 1998) and terminate in
June 1999.

Duties would include
o Providing `Helpdesk' support to specific module(s), particularly in
assisting with assessed work;
o Organisation of class and group lists;
o Co-ordination of assessed work submission, marking and return;
o Publication of relevant module material, including sale of notes;
o Co-ordination of supporting postgraduate markers, and interception of
problems and appeals that arise in assessment;
o Representing the School at meetings, registration, electives fair etc.;
o Assisting in authoring documentation and course-work.
There may also be limited opportunity to gain experience in lecturing classes.
The ability to be able to deal sympathetically with `beginners' will be
important; fluency on Unix and PC platforms will be an advantage.

Remuneration is expected to be within the range Pounds 7731 to Pounds 8633
(`Other related' scale points 4-6, pro rata for 50% time), according to
qualification and experience.
