The Information Technology Group at Sharp Laboratories of Europe Ltd in
Oxford has a vacancy for a Computational Linguist to work on commercial
projects in translation, information extraction and retrieval.
Applicants should have:
* Excellent programming skills (C/C++, Perl, Java)
* Good degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or equivalent
* Postgraduate qualification/experience in relevant areas
The ability to offer one or more of the following would be extremely useful:
* Knowledge of statistical techniques/corpus processing techniques
* Knowledge of finite-state techniques
* Knowledge of sense disambiguation techniques
* Familiarity with speech processing
* Experience of programming in PC (Windows) environments.
* Ability in any of the following languages: Spanish, French, Italian,
German or Japanese

* Creativity, originality with a practical approach to problem solving
* Enthusiasm and motivation
* Enjoy working in a team, but can work independently if required
* Flexibility
* Good communication skills
* Interest in working in a commercial development environment
