NEW LANGUAGE DEMOS AND SOFTWARE
RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT

Conexor taggers and parsers

Readers of this list might be interested to know that Conexor has made
available the following high-quality taggers and parsers of English:

- the EngCG-2 morphological tagger, an improved version of the
ENGCG tagger/parser from the early 1990s in the following respects:
- four times faster than ENGCG
- the error rate of EngCG-2 is less than half that of ENGCG
- new user-friendly output formats

- the EngLite parser, a system that assigns a light syntactic
representation to English sentences. For those familiar with the
NPtool parser developed in the early 1990s: EngLite is a
redevelopment of NPtool. Compared with NPtool:
- EngLite is about eight times faster
- the EngLite linguistic representation is more informative
- the error rate of EngLite is significantly lower

- the Functional Dependency Grammar of English: a parser that
assigns full-scale dependency parses to English sentences:
- dependency relations, syntactic functions
- parses 15-20 sentences per second.
- output formats: visual trees, functional tags with dependency
indices

You are welcome to study, test and licence these systems at the
