Hi All!

My name is Andrea Mulloni, I am studying Interpreting at the School
of Applied Languages of Graz, Austria. I am now facing the big and
- for my Institute - quite new challenge of writing a thesis on
corpus linguistics. The aim of my research paper is to analyse M.A.K.
Halliday's linguistic theory on the basis of a quite large corpus of
English and German (political) speeches. I am still not sure about
it, it actually sounds deadly interesting and I have the background
to cover it in a quite exhaustive way. And now my question(s) to you:
Do you have any suggestion about how to approach the problem?
Do you have any suggestion about any other field which would be of
major interest to you?
Do you know about any specific software (taggers, parsers, ecc.)
which would be interesting for me to look at?
I know that Micheal "The Guru" Barlow is doing some very interesting
job at Rice University... Do you have any names of other
computer linguists who could give me some hints?

Summaries will be posted.

Thanks for everything.

Cheers

Andrea Mulloni
