For a more detailed (and more critical) review of Biber's book than the
one by Kilgariff given above, see the book review by Bengt Altenberg in
_Studia Linguistica_ 43 (2), pp.167-174. (1989).

Also, I'm currently doing PhD research which essentially is an attempt
to replicate Biber's (1988) work, but using a few additional linguistic
features, and basing it on a more contemporary corpus of English (the
BNC), a wider range of texts, and a more accurate tagset.
