The book is based on the 2nd European Summer School
on Language and Speech Communication held in 1994 in
Utrecht, organised by ELSNET. It 'attempts to give both a
clear overview of the main technologies used in language
and speech processing along with sufficient mathematics to
understand the underlying principles' (from the
Introduction). The reviewer will need a good mathematical
background.
The review (no word limit, but 1700-2000 words is usual)
will be published in the Machine Translation Review, the
periodical of the the Natural Language Translation
Specialist Group of the British Computer Society.
