You might want to read the MSc thesis of a student that I supervised over
the summer called Tassos Tombros (tombrosa@dcs.gla.ac.uk). He built what
we called a query biased summarisation system, that built summaries of
retrieved documents biased towards a user's query. In user studies, Tassos
found that user's of the summaries found relevant documents much quicker
and more accurately than those using more conventional techniques.

The thesis is very readable and is in the process of being turned into a
technical report at Glasgow, but I'm sure if you email Tassos, he'll send
you an electronic copy. Tassos will be presenting his work at the AAAI
Spring Symposium on 'Intellignet Text Summarization'.
