Generally, I seem to recall that there is a preference toward using
actual numbers in scientific text and reserving their "names" (e.g.
three, four, five, etc.) for literary prose.
Thus, if we're discussing a scientific paper re: n-grams, there would be
no reason to go out of the way to use names when the 3-gram, 4-gram,
5-gram, ... n-gram syntax
is appropriate for scientific prose.
