Lectureship in natural interactive systems

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute for Production Technology (MIP)
Odense University, Denmark

Natural interactive systems integrate collaborative systems with natural
human-machine communication including speech, natural language, gesture
etc. Applications are invited for a post as research lecturer for an
initial period of 3 years. Applicants should have a relevant Ph.D. and a
degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technologies
or other relevant technical fields, and research interests in systems
software engineering, collaborative systems, speech systems or
human-computer interaction.

The chosen applicant will take part in the institute's research on
intelligent information systems and multimodal user interfaces. This work
includes part-time participation, in collaboration with three other
researchers at the institute, in the Esprit Long-Term Research Project
Magic Lounge with the aim of developing an innovative Internet-based
prototype group communication system called the Magic Lounge. Forming part
of the Esprit Long-Term Research Initiative in Intelligent Information
Interfaces, i3, Magic Lounge will collaborate with 12 other European
projects in intelligent information interfaces, which are all scheduled to
start in June 1997. i3 projects will be supported by the European Network
for Intelligent Information Interfaces, i3net, which is being coordinated
by MIP (cf. htth://www.i3net.org). The i3/i3net setup promises a unique
collaborative environment for developing tomorrow's systems and interfaces.

The chosen applicant will do a limited amount of course teaching and
project tutoring for students in computer science and information
technology. The teaching may be done in English.

MIP, the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute of Production Technology, is
internationally recognised for its research in robotics, machine vision,
software technology and natural interactive systems (NISs). The NIS group
does fundamental and applied multidisciplinary research in spoken language
dialogue systems and natural interactive systems more generally,
emphasising the development of realistic prototypes, novel theory,
concepts, methods and software tools. The group currently leads another
European project in "Spoken Language Dialogue Systems and Components. Best
practice in development and evaluation" (DISC).

Applicants should provide a basis for judging their scientific, educational
and other relevant qualifications, including a CV, references, a list of
publications and the scientific papers they want taken into consideration.
The Selection Committee may request applicants to provide additional
material and information.
