Research Professor in Information Systems
The School of Computing and Information Systems, a flagship area
for the University of Sunderland, wishes to make an additional
professorial appointments to ensure the school is at the forefront
of computing research and teaching. The most important objective for
this post will be leadership and development of an active group of
academic staff, research assistants and research students in an area
of strategic importance for the University. Expertise should be in one
or more topics within the general area of information systems.

* Telematics
* Information Retrieval and Management Systems in Organisations
* Information and Society
The School has a rapidly growing research profile, obtaining a 3a
in the recent Research Assessment Exercise and has been very
successful with EU Framework IV proposals and more recently EPSRC
proposals. It has currently about 70 PhD students in a total
postgraduate community of some 200. It is one of the largest computing
communities in the UK and has brand new computing facilities in an
environment and building of high distinction.
Research is currently focussed on the four areas of Information
Systems, Knowledge Engineering (including Natural Language Engineering
and Adaptive Computation), Software Engineering, and Decision
Support Systems, with much activity exploiting synergies between the areas.
The salary for the post will be within the professorial range (min
Pounds 34,000). A relocation package is available in approved cases.
