Michael Stubbs Text and Corpus Analysis Blackwell, ISBN 0-631-19512-2

Geoff Barnbrook Language and Computers: a practical introduction to the
Computer Analysis of Language, Edinburgh, ISBN 0-7486-0785-4

Both good. Stubbs is especially good on British school social linguistics,
and Barnbrook is excellent on exactly what computer techniques involve.
