The Institute for Natural Language Processing (Institut fuer
maschinelle Sprachverarbeitung) of Stuttgart University is seeking a
computer scientist or computational linguist to join the text
corpora/computational lexicons team of its Computational Linguistics
department. The position is rated BAT-IIa (ca. 30-35 KECU per year,
depending on age), available initially for one year with a planned
medium term extension (of ca. 2 to 3 years).

Successful candidates hold a Diploma in Computer Science (M. Sc.) or in
Computational Linguistics, or an equivalent diploma, have programming
skills and experience in C and preferably experience in work with
SGML. Knowledge and experience in Information Retrieval is considered
a major plus. Additional experience with one or more of C++, Perl, Java,
or Javascript is an advantage, but not a precondition for employment.

The position should be filled by July 1st, 1997 or earlier. It is
aimed at the design and implementation of tools for the computational
linguistic analysis of large textual corpora and at the development of
corpus query tools, as well as at their application in research,
development and service projects. Possibility for Ph.D. work.
