Dear Dr. Hans Lindquist,

Thank you for your announcemet of the International Conference of th
e Regional Varieties of English. This is the proper topic of the muturally
interdependent societies. Our society, Japan was isolated from the rest of
the world for a long time. Now we are the members of the global village.
The language which is spoken there is "English". We used to learn British E
nglish but now younger Japanese learn American English. Australia is the cl
osest English speaking society.
I enjoy logging in the server of the CobuildDirect Corpus to do rese
arch via Telnet from the computer in my office. English is used by a consta
ntly growing number of people all over the world. Sveral varieties of "Engl
ish" are identified. What variety of English should be spoken, used and wr
itten by non-native English speakers to communicate other people in other so
cieties?
