Hello everyone,

I am looking for a search server that could handle huge corpora. We now
have available 2Gb of text (in Interleaf ASCII for the time being) and I
am looking for a multiuser-multiplatform search server that could be used
to index, search, browse, etc. that textual database. Every form of
querying you can imagine might be done.

I would like to find something that can be run under Sun Solaris or HP
UX; the PCs and the Macs simply do not have the power necessary to handle
the workload that will be thrown at this server. If possible, the server
would be able to handle querying from different platforms (Solaris, HP UX,
Mac, Windows, etc); that could be done using HTML since it is a very
flexible way of doing things right.

I have looked at a couple of pieces of software out there inmcluding Pat
(which is not available anymore) and what I find is mostly related to
Intranet searching... I hate those fashionable software! It seems that
Pat had been droped to something like that. Anyone can point towards a
very good, very fast and very reliable search engine? Any idea is
appreciated.

Please send any information to the list or to the following address :
patrick.drouin@nt.com. I will published a summary to the list of course.
