English Newspapers on CD-ROM

I have used the following CD-ROMs for newspapers. There are a lot
more available on a subscription basis with regular updates. The
problem with them is in getting the data out into a file that you
can manipulate with your own software. The search engines on
the disks are pretty much geared to finding articles on a particular
topic and aren't very useful for linguistic work. Some of the discs
have their databases in ASCII format and some have to be=20
converted. The converting can be a tedious process. You'll need
someone with fairly advanced computer skills to do the job. I don't
know if it would be possible to get the vendors to supply
conversion software but that would be the answer.

The Washington Post and the Time Almanac both come in inexpensive
editions but the others are quite a bit higher in price. USA Today is
also available in inexpensive editions.
