SPECIAL SESSION ON
INSTRUCTION-LEVEL PARALLEL PROCESSING
The ICA3PP-97 Conference is directed to bring together developers and
researchers from universities, industry and government to advance science
and technology in distributed and parallel systems and processing.
This special session will focus on architectures and techniques for boosting
performance via Instruction-Level Parallelism (ILP).
Although it is not mandatory to know all the details of the internal
architecture to be able to use a pipelined processor, sophisticated compilers
and specific code optimization techniques are required to exploit its whole
potential. The traditional code optimization at assembly level does not
guarantee the internal structure of pipelined processors to be fully
exploited, and the determination of the execution time becomes unpredictable
without a simulation or a real run. On the other hand also the hardware
designer cannot tune the internal architecture of a system without the
knowledge on the applications that the processor will be required to run.
The traditional assumption of the "instruction set" as the interface between
architects and compiler designers is no longer valid. Computer architects and
compiler designers must cooperate and investigate possible innovative
solutions to exploit parallelism in future high-performance processors.
This special session is intended as a place where researchers and developers
in both the architectural and software fields can meet and discuss key issues
of common interest.
Topics of interest include:
* ARCHITECTURAL ISSUES:
ILP-based architectures,
Innovative ILP-based architectures,
Design tools for ILP-based systems,
Application-specific ILP-based systems for real-time image processing,
numerical analysis, physical simulation,...
* SOFTWARE ISSUES:
Languages and paradigms exploiting ILP,
Compilation and code generation techniques for ILP,
Code optimization for ILP,
Performance analysis and prediction tools for ILP,
ILP-based algorithms
* OTHER ISSUES:
Compiler and architecture co-design,
Applications of ILP techniques,
Theoretical foundations of ILP
PAPER SUBMISSION:
Perspective authors should submit 6 copies of an extended summary (at least 5
pages plus figures and tables) or the full paper (not exceeding 20 pages) to:

Submission should include authors names, affiliations, addresses, fax and
phone numbers, email addresses, on the cover page. Submission implies the
willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper,
if accepted.
