Abstract: This paper presents an interpretation of lexical aspects
of business meetings in Portuguese and in English as native
languages, introducing the notion of topical nets. These reflect
the way lexis is organised and can be visually displayed as
landscapes of texts. The methods used for the interpretation are
from computational lexical analysis tools and include word
listing, concordancing, collocation analysis and keyness of
words in and across texts (Scott 1996). Results indicate that the
variables used and the features generated by the analysis can
be powerful analytical instruments for the lexical description of
variants within the business meeting genre.
