True again in that there are no standard stop word lists for any language
and it is early days for multilingual IR, but that is not to say that there is
no progress ...

surely you know my work at crl on multilingual IR. i was one of the
authors of the tagger you used in trec-4. and surely you know that
work that HNC (the parent company of my current employer) has done in
cross language
thus you must know that i wouldn't try to slight the progress made to
date.
