Thanks for your infomation. I guess I did not post my questions
exactly right. Briefly:

* I want to know the edition numbers of the corresponding
paper copies for the electronic (i.e., the roget13.zip,
roget13a.zip, roget14a.zip) files, if any, so that I could
work on the electronic files and use the paper copies for
reference.

* If there are other newer versions (including both electronic
and paper copies), I would like to have the new versions.

Currently, I have the following paper copies:

1979 edition: "Roget's international thesaurus" (?? 4th edition)
(based on the "Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases")
by the Harper & Row Publishers, Inc.
(1042 headwords)

1992 edition: "Roget's international thesaurus (5th edition)"
by the HarperCollins Publishers.
(1073 headwords, including modern headwords like "Computer
Science")

Neither of the above two paper copies looks like the roget*.zip files.
And the electronic files obviously have a smaller number of words
than the paper copies. Therefore, I cannot use them for reference
when I am not working on the electronic files.

According to the 1979 edition, there are other previous re-prints or
editions published in 1911, 22, 30, 32, ..., 74, 77, 79.
(The term "original copy" in my previous posting is probably misleading.)
So I am curious whether there are paper copies for the roget*.zip files.
Which edition (1911, 22, ..., 79, 92) is most closely to the files?
Is there an electronic version correspoding to the newer, say, the 1992,
edition? How to access it?

In fact, I am happy to have any elctronic version which has a
corresponding paper copy, the newer the better.

Your infomation is appreciated.

: The reason why Mr. Chang would like a version of Roget closer to the
: original is not clear. The Roget13.zip is very close to the
: original (unless it has been modified since it was submitted to
: Project Gutenberg). It has only about 1000 words added to the original
: text, and all other modifications were made solely to make it easier
: to interpret by a computer program. The original should be primarily
: of interest only for historical purposes. The electronic version
: of theoriginal lacked an index, because such an index is better
: prepared directly from the text, with an indexing program, for
: texts which will be modified. If there is really some interest
: in a version even closer to the original, please contact me and I will
: see if I can find an earlier version. If still accessible, it will,
: unfortunately, be filled with typos.
