from the filching capital of the world..

Writing from an area that is probably the largest supplier of pirated
software to the rest of the world (most sold in Europe btw), I'd suggest
that the dictionary makers don't have more to fear than academics "filching
lexicons" (which, as Adam suggests, will presumably be used as the basis of
research that should benefit the source). The people who pirate software
here don't offer their cracking programs to researchers.

In the time since I've joined this illustrious group I've been astounded by
the generosity of individuals (including Adam Kilgariff and Jem Clear) to
assist me in gathering materials and suggesting techniques in my potting
around with language. I'd like to think that we can continue to share tools
and techniques and assume a shared sense of academic honesty in obtaining
copyright when necessary.
