NOTES TO OVERSEAS PARTICIPANTS
==============================

FROM AIRPORT TO HOTEL
=====================

Welcome to Hong Kong!

Everywhere in Hong Kong are easily accessible. Taxi is the easiest way of
getting around. They are red with silver tops and the fares on Hong Kong
and Kowloon are:

Flagfall HK$13.00
Per additional 200 metres HK$1.10
Waiting/time per minute HK$1.10
Baggage per piece HK$5.00
Cross harbour tunnel toll HK$10.00

Under normal traffic condition, to get to a place on the Kowloon side
(the Airport is also located on the Kowloon side) by taxi will cost you
less than HK$120, while for destinations on Hong Kong Island it will cost
you more.

Many taxi drivers do not speak much English. Here are some useful tips:

(1) You are advised to pay the taxi meter fare in HONG KONG DOLLARS (HK$).
Banks and moneychangers can be easily found at the airport. At
the time of writing, the exchange rate of US$ to HK$ is 1 to
7.736 (for reference only). Remember to get some HK$100
notes (red in color) to pay the taxi fare.

(2) To avoid misunderstandings, please get the hotel staff to write
down your destination (name and address of the hotel) in Chinese
characters. Participants who book their accommodation through
the Conference Secretariat will receive such information by fax.
It will be very useful if you can show the taxi driver your destination
in Chinese characters.

FROM HOTEL TO THE CAMPUS
========================

The Conference will be held at the Council Chamber of the City University
of Hong Kong on 27-28 December 1995. The full address of the Conference
venue is given below:

You can go to our Campus by taxi or by taking a train at the nearest
Mass-Transit-Railway Station (MTR). The Campus is just a few minutes
walk from the MTR station at Kowloon Tong. Tickets for single journeys
can be purchased from the ticketing machines which take HK$10, $5, $2, $1
and 50 cent coins. Fares range from $4 to $11. Take MTR to the
Kowloon Tong Station (a stop on the main line running from Yaumatei to
Quarry Bay). Choose Exit C "City University of Hong Kong". Go up 2
escalators and follow the direction signs to Tat Chee Avenue. Then
enter the subway on your right and walk through it. Follow direction
signs put up by City University at the end of the subway and turn right,
