In the past I have taught a three-credit graduate course,
Computer Programming for the Humanities, via Internet. I would
like to know if there is interest in my offering the course again
during the summer of 1995.

CHUM 650, Computer Programming for the Humanities, is a
study of programming in the SNOBOL4 language for applications in
the humanities such as analysis of texts, arranging data from
research, and formatting for printing and desktop publishing.
Students work at their own pace using Internet facilities:
students request "lectures" from a listserver as they are wanted;
exercises are completed and sent to the professor; at any time
students can pose questions for the professor.

The cost of tuition and fees will be approximately $480.00
for the three credit graduate course (the exact rates for summer
will be set soon). That is the only cost for the course since
the "lectures" are the only necessary textbook, and a public-
domain SNOBOL4 compiler and a shareware editor are supplied to
all students. Students may register as auditors and
automatically receive the grade of "AU" or they can register for
a pass-fail grade (actually "Credit" or "No Credit"). Credit is
granted by Dakota State University.

The course teaches students to write programs that run on
PCs under DOS. Prior to the start of the course, students should
have some understanding of how to run DOS programs and how to
manage DOS files, and they should know how to send and receive
messages and files via Internet.

If you are interested in enrolling in this course, please
send me an email message as soon as possible.
