Whereabouts...

Dear colleagues,
I have a great interest in the -for me- new world of corpora that seem to
open infinite prospects to researches in linguistics. Apart from the fact
that the access to certain corpora -the British National Corpus to name but
one- seems impossible because of my living on a small island isolated from
the EEC, I haven't yet been able to see a corpus opened on the screen of my
little Macintosh LC. Putting aside such electronic lyrical verbiage: I am
presently working on a certain area of linguistics that could benefit a
great deal from work on corpora. I wish to try and use one corpus to see
what it could bring to my research. I am interested in corpora in French
and in English, and to a lesser extent in Russian. I haven't been able to
concretely lay a hand on such a corpus, be it on the servers in Bergen or
Lancaster. Could anyone help me and spare me a few hours in getting there.
